Nilavilakku or oil lamp is very famous in Kerala.
These Oil lamps have commonly used in Hindu temples as well as in the home.  Generally, the lamps used in the temples are circular, either hanging or with a stand, having grooves for five wicks. In Kerala, there are few types of oil lamps (called nilavilakku) that are common in temples and traditional rituals, some of the smaller ones are used for offerings as well. There is the variety of Nilavilakku. Nilavilakku is the traditional brass lamp in Kerala. This is an auspicious lamp used at homes, pujas, and weddings.
In almost every home in Kerala, a lamp is lit daily in the dawn and in the dusk. All auspicious functions and moments like daily worship, rituals and festivals and even many social occasions like inaugurations commence with the lighting of the lamp, which is often maintained right through the occasion. The Lord is the “Knowledge Principle” (chaitanya) who is the source, and the illumination of all knowledge. Hence, light has worshiped as the Lord Himself. Tooku Vilakku is a brass or bronze lamp hanging from a chain often has multiple wicks.
In Sanskrit, deep meaning lamp, a lighted oil lamp has considered a sign of auspiciousness and goodness.  Light has considered as a symbol of auspiciousness, prosperity, and abundance in the Indian tradition.  Light is also associated with the brightness of mind and understanding.
If you want to start anything, lit a lamp.  When you light a lamp, apart from the visual aspect, it fills the whole place with a different kind of positive energy.  For lighting the lamp use vegetable oils, like sesame oil, castor oil or ghee, it gives out positivism. It has its own field of energy. Try it out.
